I just hope they post the conference seminar presentations online, like last year. Those are invaluable for any developer.

I realize that some people want X, Y, Z now! For myself, I can wait for new hardwareprobably until iPhone 6 (or 5 if the next one is 4G)as I like to get several years of use out of it. Heck, I just decommissioned my iBook G4 last year. What Im excited to see is what iOS 5 will bring. This is how Apple will have dominance over Android phones.

As for waiting ~ 3 more months, while Im not a blind Apple lap dog, I have a certain amount of faith that they know what theyre doing. I think that Steve, the master of shrewd and manipulation, has taught his disciples well.

I bet this is a preview of what Leopard is gonna look like.

I'll stick Leopard DVD in a shredder if thats what it ends up looking like. Apple just managed to bring the windows UI (looks like sony connect) into OS X. Thanks a lot. :(

"However, this does not mean these other applications are dead - simply that Apple is not talking about them... yet."

So maybe this explains the low price point. $299 for Final Cut Pro X and $999 for the full suite? I hope not. All looks amazing though!

I hope that this pisses off the studios royally. The sooner we shift to a purely electronic method of distribution, the better everything is.

Be careful what you wish for, and which Devil you find yourself in bed with. Remeber Divx, the original Circuit City Divx. The studios want to protect our media FROM us and they want us to forget "fair use" ever existed. Their dream is to restrict access to our media and make us pay for each access to it.

Divx charged you to watch DVDs you "owned" for 48-hour time windows, and you couldn't go from one player to another. Digital media is great, but always remember the studios don't like that you can buy a movie for $20 and watch it as many times as you want or do things like ripping it to an iPod. DRM will creep in and protect your media from you, online distribution only ensures this will happen sooner rather than later.

Not to mention the quality problem. When will iTunes offer 1920x1080 movies with Dolby Digital Plus sound? That's right, never. When physical media goes away, we are all stuck with low quality -- thanks in large part to iTunes and paying for 128 kbps songs and then 320x240 videos. Sonically, we have a generation of people listening to heavily compressed music on crappy earbuds. We've gone backwards from CD, not forward. Rather than going to 24-bit sampling, 192kHz sampling, and 6 channels, at best we get lossless that's still the same as a CD. The high-res audio formats (DVD-A, SACD) failed miserably. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are just launching but will not grow like DVD did. And here we have people flocking to buy movies with inferior quality to DVD.

Would they base MacWorld around something as simple as wireless this or that? It's got to be big, probably a new product. I'm still leaning towards the GPS thing. Garmin has already announced it will be at MacWorld with new software/product codenamed "Bobcat"

Maybe it's a portable in-car computer system touch screen tablet with the works, how amazing would that be! GPS, mp3, video, phone, etc etc.

I really want an Apple Watch. And I really want an Apple GPS unit that works really nicely with my Mac and google earth. Chuck in BT for live stuff and connectivity to Macs and iPhones.

How many Apple Watches with GPS could they sell? My guess is millions.

Apple has $15 Billion in Cash...and as a shareholder, (i'm not alone here) am a little upset that they're not doing anything with it. A billion or two won't kill them.

Remember that the iphone is the most profitable product line that apple has. I think that they will continue this trend into the other products, however in order to do so, you must build the infrastructure. Apple will either buy out a current player in the wireless sector, or will slowly deploy their own network, slowly integrating existing products into it... convergence.

Its not going to be a few Billion. Its going to be a lot more and require a huge huge expansion of their business because its a new game. Its not like making an iPod, its about entering a very competitive environment by buying an existing telco. One that I think they cant even use the current iPhone with and we have seen nothing new at the FCC.

I think its clear Apple aren't going this way because there unique business model is to take a share of the profits.

I don't know the answer to question one, but the answer to the second question is yes. On top of that, the rate of conviction of blacks is higher.

It was ONE question, not a first and a second one. Whatever somebody answers to only the second half of it, is totally meaningless as long as the answer to the first half is not "yes".

I don't like the Microsoft bashing's just something that gets to me. Microsoft bashing is a waste of energy. Who cares what company did what first, as a consumer I don't care about originality. Just give me something that works. Whatever company can implement the idea the best to provide a benefit to ME, gets my business. Just shut up and innovate (like Apple has been doing), the products will speak for themselves.

I agree totally. If anything all the bashing makes Apple (and its fans) seem insecure. Just deliver the goods and let the marketshare speak for itself. (Plus the mightier-than-thou attitude alienates PC users and makes them think twice about joining "the cult".)

Right, which is why Fortune 500 companies, education, and the medical industry is quickly adopting them. Maybe you need to open your mind a little to possibilities rather than obsess over one small aspect of the iPad.

What part of the medical industry is adopting the iPad (besides a medical school trying to appear avant garde) and how? I'm a physician at one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the nation and I usually see more iPads at my local Starbucks than at work. So, please enlighten me. Use specific examples please.

I'm actually typing this on my iPad 2 and find it being sold at a toy store as appropriate. I love it, but let's keep it real here.

Most people here are missing the big picture. I'm pretty old and have witnessed the changes in the tech sector. Back in '01 a lot of laptops were made or at least assembled in the USA, and they were quality products, but with cheap foreign labor most global companies could not resist the couple of percent they could add to their profit margins by moving overseas. The company I worked for made laptops for a major name, but they closed the plant here to save between 3.00 and 6.00 dollars per unit, a very small percentage of the overall value. A company like Apple could easily, make and assemble products here, the profit margin on an iPhone is around 60%, but if they did that then there profit margin would only be 50%. In 2000, American EXPORTED more high tech components than it imported. Here is the .gov source ( We have competed and still can. As the Yuan rises against the dollar because the Chinese government can no longer keep it down the price on all these goods will rise, this is happening right now, the Chinese government can't combat inflation and rising food prices. So, companies like Foxconn are forced to look for cheaper labor.

I sure hope my college gives out free upgrades like they did with XP Pro, because $239 is a LOT to spend on an OS!

(and no, after the DLhell from doing an upgrade from 98 to XP, I would never go the upgrade route again)

When I look at Apple's app reviewing, I think about how Nintendo did gatekeeping in the 80's in order to maintain the quality of its game library. A few third party developers got pissed, you had the black cartridges, but it worked out in Nintendo's favor.

To me the gatekeeping is just a business decision. It's not perfect but it does filter out a lot of crap out there. Apple just has to streamline their review process to be more consistent

3D is an additional feature. If you wish to not use it, by all means, don't use it. Your experience will not change.

It will be the same as adjusting your brightness. Not everyone wants a super bright screen, just the same, not everyone wants to view their device in 3D. There is a zero chance Apple releases a 3D product without the means of turning it off.

Adjusting the 3DS's 3D capabilities is a slider away. If you want to play your games in 2D, the way you've always done, you can still do this with ease. 3D is an additional feature for times you may want to use 3D on your device (watching Avatar on a plane). It doesn't mean you're going to be forced to use 3D while reading the New York Times.

I think what people are annoyed with is the constant discussion of 3D in mainstream media. It IS annoying, and I wish for it to stop, but at the same time, I can't find a reason why this technology would be bad for the iPad / iPhone, as it's being added on to the interface, rather than replacing it.

    Mar 12, 09:23 AM
[QUOTE=Sydde;12126014]Probably not, though, because then our tech-toy upgrade cycles would be much less regular, we would have to fix more stuff instead of replacing it, and there would simply not be enough margin to maintain the crucial upper class. So, yeah, practically speaking, we have to./QUOTE]

One wonders how Japan, the third largest economy in the world, does it?

They are just as tech-toy advanced as the United States... if not more.

And they manage to do it while spending only 0.9% ( of their GDP on defense ($46 billion) while the United States spends 4.3% ( ($663 billion).

How is China growing into the next economic superpower while only spending 2% ( of its GDP ($99 billion) on defense?

See, I think you have it backwards. You see our massive defense spending as propping up our economy. I think a closer examination will reveal that it is instead is instead, dragging us down.

Going through all the Free TV Show episodes I haven't yet seen and redownloading them in 640x480.

I love every bit of this new iTunes... well except for the annoying fact that all the store views now scroll horizontally.

Clive at Five, you need to check up on your facts. Sam's kids actually have very little to do with the company at all. Other than making money from it, they are really not involved in the business operations/decisions of the company.

Sam's daughter got busted a few times for DUI. After the last one, she decided it'd be better to pack up and relocate to Ft. Worth, Texas and raise horses on her ranch than to stay in NW Arkansas.

HecubusPro, from Arkansas here. You from Bentonville?
