Well my quad core i7 MPB turned up this morning, so the first thing had to be to see how well it folds!

It's just the stock 2.0 GHz 15" version, but initial indications are good.

It downloaded a 6701 WU, which do tend to be slower than the others, so I'll update these figures once its done a few different units.

    TPF: 11 min 46 s
    PPD: 6184
    CPU temp: 85 C
    Fan speed: 4667 rpm (both)
Power draw: 58-59 W (screen off, 62-63 W with screen on)

For comparison, my 2.4 C2D iMac does about 1400 ppd using 75 W, but at a much cooler 54 C.

Feel free to add your own Sandy Bridge numbers for comparison.

    Keep folding!

I've recently installed a 2.33ghz c2d chip in my old 1.66 cd mac mini. The performance boost has been great!

I've noticed temps have gotten a little high while running encodes and such... around low - mid 90s C while handbrake is encoding. I know this is still within operating temperature, but i'd like them to be a little lower.

I managed to keep the plastic clips from breaking while installing my cpu. I've been thinking about replacing the nylon clips with some nylon screws, like others have mentioned.

My question, Do people use the springs that came with the clips when installing the screws? Or do people just screw the heatsink down snug to the cpu without the springs?

So true. Between my SLR, Samsung Focus, and Cannon SD780, I see no reason to keep my P&S, except that I couldn't sell it for much, and it's a quality camera in case I ever need to take a camera somewhere and don't want to use my cellphone? Do situations like that even exist?

With the newer high-end smart phones, I feel like the convergence has already been completed.

    Hey Folks.
So today my boss mentioned that it would be really nice to use babel fish to translate our entire website much like what is being done here:
with the babelfish box on the left side.
This actually isn't a bad idea over all, except when I try running our website ( through babel fish it breaks the DHTML drop down menus, I suspect this has to do with the fact that babelfish sticks the site into a frame but I'm wondering if anyone has or knows of a work around for this??

Babelfish is an abomination, useful only for laughs. Here's a paragraph from a German news website ( translated into English.
"Because on 22 July officials shot the innocent Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, whom they had regarded as a terrorist. For Blair however the reproaches, it are more serious an independent investigation of the "Independent policy Complaints Commission" in the case Menezes to stop wanted."

Doubt it. I have the 2.0 ghz and it works great. If you do a lot of video encoding you'll see a speed up, but for me I'd have to be doing video all day for me to want to upgrade. I'm going to wait for a machine that has light peak/usb 3 and and i7 or better ... so I'll be hanging on to this machine for quite some time to come. The .66 increase in speed is just not something I'd see with how my machine gets used. If you do lots and lots of video, upgrade ... if not save your money.

HDMI is basically DVI + Audio. VGA can't compare nor can component when it comes to bandwidth.

I can offer you one to one service but my hourly rates will be higher than what Apple is charging.

Also, why is this in the iMac forum?

It may be a lack of scope or focus. For example, I almost started a "using Gmail with" article, but, you know, Google maintains such an article. Why not link to that? There are several other guides out on the net from various sources. Do we re-author them?

What warrants creating a new guide and what does not?

Thanks guys, I live in the USA. California to be specific. The reason why I wanted separate insurance is cause my parents homeowners insurance doesn't cover anything at home that is not purchased in their name. :(

Definitely do not send it back to the guy. If you're going to do anything, send it to your friend and have her make the exchange and check the phone and make sure it's working as it should. (Hopefully she knows a thing or two about iPhone's)

That sounds scary... fortunately if you password is long enough it would take a lot to get it up to the last digit. Thats pretty strange though. I guess if I had a 1 letter password anything would work?
Hmmmm.... You probably should report this to apple!

Fair enough, I can understand those reasons. Thanks for explaining it to me.
